SAVE THE OCEAN NOW!
Right now, the ocean and its habitat are in bigger danger than ever. Global warming had caused coral reefs bleaching and marine population depletion, overfishing due demands had also caused population depletion; there are lots of marine animals that is categorized as endangered species right now. Moreover, ocean is becoming acidic and start to harm ocean habitats. There are lots of other aspects that have caused ocean destruction.
There are some things we can start doing to make a change, Bostom.com have listed 25 things we can do to save the ocean, some are:
1. Be Green
Help to lessen global warming by reducing your carbon footprint, conserving more water, eating organic food, and buy nontoxic products.
2. Don’t wash your car in the street
The detergent runoff most likely will end up untreated in lakes, streams, and oceans.
3. Use natural personal-care and laundry products
When you shower or wash your clothes with the washing machine, the water will goes down to the drain. Waste water treatment plants are not equipped to filer out to filter out these types of chemicals.
4. Organize clean-ups of nearby beaches
Start volunteering to clean up the beaches near to you. Last year, volunteers collected almost 18,000 pounds of debris from 130 miles of coastline.

Plastic bags cause the deaths of many marine animals, mistaking them as their food. Reduce the usage of plastic bags, bring your own cloth bags during shopping.
6. Choose your fish carefully

7. Vote with the environment in mind
Lobby your legislators to end harmful fishing methods, make a safety standard for oil spills on the ocean.
8. Prevent air pollution
Air pollution contributes to water pollution and it is increasing the level of acidity on the oceans and lakes. Avoid using cars if you’re going to a short distance, use bicycle or walk instead.
9. Don’t flush unused or expire medications
Antidepressants, painkillers, and other kind of drugs are showing up in the water and it is harming the aquatic life. Don’t flush unused pills, crush them and throw them away in kitty litter instead.
10. If you have saltwater fish tank, buy only Marine Aquarium Council-certified fish, and never return them to the ocean.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP PRESERVE OCEAN HABITATS??
Do you love the ocean? If you do, there are some things you can do to protect the ocean and the marine habitats. Ocean had given us resources, from food, water, recreation to medicine; It’s time for us to return the favor. Start from a small steps to a bigger steps. You can start by minimizing your carbon print; by not leaving your laptop or TV on all day if you’re not using it. Turn the lights off if you going out. Walk to places, if the place you’re heading is close take a walk, it is better to not use vehicles, or you can simply use bike. In that way it reduce the pollution. Other than that, what you can do is use fewer plastics; plastics are bad for the environment and the living things. Every plastics that we used, starting from plastic bags, plastics bottle and etc, will end up in the ocean that contribute to habitat destruction and kill many of marine animals. There are some simple things you can do to use less plastic, like bring your own water bottle everywhere. Store food or bring food in nondisposable containers, bring your own grocery bag when shopping and last but not least is recycle.
Throw your trash in the bin; this might be the simplest thing to do, but there some people didn’t throw their trash in the bin. This can happen everywhere, including the beaches. Many of the garbage are plastic and debris, when you throw it in the street or anywhere else it will eventually end up in the ocean, when rains swept all the garbage to the ocean. If we are traveling or going to some places, many of us litter everywhere we want. Then the amount of trash will leave behind. We can start throwing the trash in the bin, try really hard to not litter or you can bring your own trash bag with you. Last but not least SHARE IT; share with the people you know, your family, your friends, your teacher and others about what’s going on with the world’s ocean and what can they do to make a difference.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP?
As a student, we might think that we cannot do anything big to help the environmental issues. guess what? you are wrong! there are so many things that we can do to help, such as:
BY.AISYAH PUTRI
- start with educate your self about marine biology. understanding their role in our life, by understanding their role you will understand how important they are even the tiniest part of them to our life.
- SPREAD THE NEWS! after you know and understand about marine life, share your knowledge with your surroundings. as a modern generation, we are provided with many kind of social media. social media is the perfect medium to share our thoughts. we can share a short movie about marine ecosystem, a blog about marine biology, etc.
- as a teenager, shopping is one of our favorite thing to do right? have you ever think about those plastic bags that you used? those bags are not environmental friendly, it can damaged the ocean and the ecosystem. so when you're shopping try to use less plastic products. try to replace them with any kind of bags that you have.
- USE LESS ELECTRICITY! turn off the lights, air conditioning, etc. that you are not use. by decreasing your electronic use, you already contribute in protecting the world from global warming.
