THE HISTORY
The rainbow warrior was named after a North American Cree Indian prophesies: “When the world is sick and dying, the people will rise up like Warriors of the Rainbow”.
Back in 1955, the rainbow warrior (Rainbow Warrior I) is a ship that active in supporting environmental organization, Greenpeace. Their activities are protesting against seal hunting, whaling and nuclear weapon testing during the late 1970s and early 1980s. French secret service agents in diving gears sank the ship in harbor in New Zealand, yet French government denied their crime but at the end French Prime Minister publicity admitted “Agents of the DGSE (secret service) sank this boat. They acted on orders” After the bombing, the ship resting place at Matauri Bay in New Zealand’s Cavalli Island, where it become a living reef attracting marine life and divers. Then Greenpeace replaced her with Rainbow Warrior II for 22 years.
In October 14th 2011 the new Rainbow Warrior (Rainbow Warrior III) replaced Rainbow Warrior II after further upgrades and maintenances. Their activities are around environmental protests and scientific excursions.
The new Rainbow Warrior can carry specialized equipment up to 8 tons in weight. It is designed to facilitate the scientist to work on board. She also provided with on-board satellite communications system, featuring a built-in satellite uplink so they are able to stream live footage from the scene of environmental crimes directly to the worlds media.
